Thomas Schlenhardt, campaign manager, gives his thoughts on the Trib’s endorsement.

Although the Tribune got it wrong on the endorsement, they did get it right in calling Lisa Madigan out on her dismal record of fighting public corruption: “What she (Lisa Madigan) hasn’t done…is launch a full assault on political corruption. Madigan has NIBBLED AROUND THE EDGES, working to strengthen and enforce the ‘revolving door’… prohibitions that prevent state employees from taking jobs with the firms they regulate. But the hallmark of her tenure has been consumerism, NOT corruption-busting.”

It was great to see the Republican organizations working hard on a beautiful and sunny Saturday walking precincts for candidates. We stopped by the Lake County Volunteer Center and greeted precinct captains and other volunteers. Then we headed to the Wheeling Township Republican headquarters where Committeewoman Ruth O’Connell and volunteers were working hard to get out the vote.
Afterwards I was interviewed by Russian radio on their Russian Orthodox channel. It was great reaching out to the Russian immigrant community. There are so many similarities between the Asian American and Russian American immigrant experiences…hardworking small business owners sacrificing so their children can live a better life.
We ended the day at Senator Dan Rutherford’s event at Connie’s pizza in Naperville. Good food and great friends from DuPage county..we had a great time.

With only 25 days remaining until election day we are sending out literatures and yard signs.
Please email rey nonato at reynonato@gmail.com if you need literature and yard signs.
On Friday I spoke to college students at the UIC forum. Roosevelt college students, led by Maggie Chambers and Arie Friedman ..hosted this great event. It is awesome to see young people involved with the political process. College graduates are struggling to find jobs, and our political leaders must create an atmosphere in Illinois that will allow more entry level job creation. Too many of our college graduates are leaving to other States and also to other countries.
Chris Heidorn and the Milton Township Republicans had over 250 people attend their Oktoberfest event. It was great to see the crowd energized as we head into the final few weeks. Thank you to all the committeemen that sacrifice their time and resources to help the candidates. I appreciate all their efforts.

More media on Thursday. I had interviews with the Chicago Sun Times and Chicago Tribune editorial staff. We also went to several candidates forums. The Romeoville Chamber of Commerce had a candidates forum in Romeoville. We then headed to the Elk Grove Township candidates forum where Congressman Roskam, Mayor Johnson of Elk Grove village, Cook County Commissioner Liz Gorman, Rep. Candidate David Harris, Senator Matt Murphy and others were in attendance.
The unemployment numbers came out and it was dismal. No matter how much the White House tries to spin it the fact of the matter is that too many Americans are out of work. Its time for a new direction under new leadership to steer the economic ship back into the right direction.

On Monday we started bright and early and drove down to Bloomington where I had an opportunity to address and answer questions from State Farm Insurance employees. State Farm is the largest insurance company in the US and is the largest employer in Bloomington. I support their policy of open competition in the insurance arena so that consumers can have more choices and competitive pricing. Thanks to Kevin Callis of State Farm for setting up the visit.
After the State Farm visit we headed to Peoria where I sat down with the editorial board of the Peoria Journal Star for their endorsement session. I focused on the campaign’s key points of fighting corruption and representing State interests so that the regulatory climate in Illinois will create jobs rather than chase them away.
We ended the day at McHenry County where I addressed a large group of McHenry County Republicans. Congressman Don Manzullo, County Chairman and State Rep. Mike Tryon and Senator Pam Althoff were all in attendance. McHenry County Republicans are ready to work for all Republicans during the final stretch leading to November 2nd.

REPUBLICAN CANDIDATE FOR ATTORNEY GENERAL STEVE KIM OFFERS SUPPORT FOR ILLINOIS WORKERS AND SMALL BUSINESS
On December 15, 2009, the EPA issued its Endangerment and Cause or Contribute Findings for Greenhouse Gases under Section 202(a) of the Clean Air Act (the “Endangerment Finding”). The EPA concluded that global climate change is largely human-caused. The Endangerment Finding is the foundation on which the EPA will build far-reaching greenhouse gas regulation of virtually all facets of the United States economy.
The States of Alaska, Alabama, Michigan, Nebraska, Florida, Hawaii, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas, Virginia and Utah have filed legal actions challenging the Endangerment Finding. Policymakers, numerous trade groups, and businesses throughout the country have also raised concerns about the significant negative impact that the EPA’s Endangerment Finding will have on jobs and local economies, and have joined this important legal effort.
The EPA’s burdensome regulations will stifle business growth in Illinois and across the nation and will present an enormous blow to American competitiveness abroad. “Though I am not arguing the scientific methods of the EPA findings, the costs of these regulations will be passed onto the citizens of Illinois, all during a time of economic recession,” Kim said. “This is not the time to place more burdens on the business community.”
If elected, Kim has pledged to use all available means to seek answers from the EPA and to advance the fight against the EPA’s proposed regulations. Kim challenged Attorney General Lisa Madigan to take a similar stand, noting that she has filed a brief in Washington in support of these business-stifling regulations. “I encourage my opponent to stand with me against these overly burdensome federal regulations and in support of the economic interests of the citizens of our state. As Attorney General, I will always place my office on the side of the worker and small business against all unduly burdensome and unnecessary regulations.”

We were back on the road Sunday heading to our State capitol, Springfield. Bill Brady, Jason Plummer, Robert Enriquez and I spoke at the “Restore the Constitution” rally on the steps of the State capitol building. Thank you to the Springfield Tea Party for helping to organize the event.
After Springfield we drove back to Niles where we attended the Korean American Association of Chicago Golf Outing and Dinner at Woori Restaurant. After a long day of golfing nothing fills the stomach like Korean spare ribs.

Electrifying Weekend at Dupage County Rally/Oakbrook Fundraiser

We spent the day in DuPage County on Saturday… the largest Republican county in the country. Senator Cronin and the DuPage County Republicans planned a rally at the Odeum in Addison. The entire statewide ticket, Congressman Roskam, Congresswoman Biggert, Senator Randy Hultgreen, Senator Kirk Dillard, Senator John Milnor, Rep. Patti Bellock, Rep. Mike Fortner and numerous other officials were there. There was so much excitement in the crowd. The campaign season is mentally and physically grueling but to see the excitement and hear the cheers from hundreds of our supporters makes all of this hard work worth it. Thank you DuPage Republicans.
We also attended Congressman Peter Roskam’s fundraiser in Oakbrook. Congressman Roskam invited two exciting members of Congress from Florida. Cuban born and brothers, Congressman Lincoln Diaz- Balart and Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart really fired up the crowd. I learned one thing…never run against a Cuban.
We ended the day at Lake County for an event for Bob Dold.

Fundraiser for Michael Madigan’s Opponent/Illinois State Senate Republican Fundraiser
No comments · Posted by Steve Kim in General Posts
Thursday we were joined by campaign manager, Tom Schlendhart at several of events. We started by going to the “Fundraiser for Michael Madigan’s Opponent..Patrick Ryan” hosted by the ILGOP. As we thought, Patrick Ryan did not show up but we had a great turnout including the media..it looks like they are looking for Michael Madigan’s “opponent” also.
Afterwards we went to an event for Bob Dold, who is running for Congress in the 10th Congressional district…this event was hosted by the very active Chicago Young Republicans…congratulations to Laura Kotelman, Kyle Stone and Ashvin Lad for all their hard work.
We also attended the Illinois State Senate Republican Fundraiser at the Chicago Hilton and Towers. A great turnout. Many of the Republican Senator alumni were in attendance including Congressman Peter Roskam and his wife Elizabeth, former Senate Republican Leader Frank Watson, Senator Dave Sullivan, Senator Patrick O’Malley, and many more. It was good to see some friends there…Donovan Pepper from Walgreens and Darcy Davidsmeyer from Motorola.
