This week we will doing a lot of media. On Monday I did interviews with the major Korean American media outlets including Korea Daily, Kyocharo and Korea Central Daily. I also attended a candidates forum sponsored by the Polish National Alliance. I want to thank Dorothy Chincilla of Milton Township for helping me in the Polish community. Also a thanks to Walter Zernecki, committeeman of the 44th ward for making the arrangements for me at the forum.

We ended the day at the Lisle Township Republican organization meeting. It was great seeing all the precinct captains and volunteers working hard walking precincts, making calls, passing out literature at train stations, etc… Thank you!!!

Please follow the provided link to see a very interesting Tribune article.

Whom to blame for Illinois’ dismal state?

Busy weekend…we went to a Northern Illinois University tailgate party hosted by the college Republicans. Thanks to Josh Kreft, chairman of NIU college republicans and Nick Wians, vice chairman of the college republicans for organizing the event. The Downers Grove Republican Organization, headed by Brian Krajewski, had their annual brunch fundraiser. Over 300 attendees heard from Bill Brady, Judy Biggert, Mark Kirk, Dan Rutherford and myself. I also did an Indian TV interview.

On Sunday, Senator John McCain came into town to help Republicans get elected. It was great listening to his vision on America. He is a captivating speaker…and funny also.

Tolbert Chisum, head of the New Trier Republicans, hosted a sold out dinner event in Northbrook. It was good to see old friends like Bruce Hamilton, John Tsarpalas, John Lartz, etc…the new trier republicans are fired up and will get out the vote.

Two Days in the Metro East

For the past two days we were in the metro east area. I want to thank Deb Detmers, chair of Madison County GOP, Myron Neff, chair of Monroe County GOP and John McLean, chair of St. Clair County GOP for setting up meet and greets and introducing me to the hard working Republicans in their respective counties.

Deb arranged a lunch with GOP leaders and lawyers in Collinsville where I learned of corruption happenning in Madison County. The tax auctions where the county is charging outrageous interest rates to homeowners is a flagrant violation of public trust. The Belleville Democrat first reported this story and many members of the Madison County board have asked the Attorney General to investigate. I too call upon the Attorney General to investigate this matter in a timely manner. When homeowners are suffering the government should not make it worse.

Myron Neff and Floyd Crowder did an incredible job organizing the Monroe County Fall Dinner. Over 600 people were in attendance including Nancy Brady, Mark Kirk, Jason Plummer and Sen. Dave Luchtefield. It was also great to see Jason’s parents there. They are truly great supporters and fine people.

John arranged a breakfast at the St. Clair Republican HQ and I had a chance to meet with his team. I also attended a press conference with Congressman Kirk and Congressman John Shimkus regarding the disturbing military ballot issue. There is absolutely no excuse that over 20 county clerks in Illinois missed the deadline to send ballots to our military personnel. In these times of global conflict, the votes of our military should be of paramount importance and these voices should and need to be heard on election day.  I call upon the Attorney General to work with the US Justice Department to investigate this matter.

The final event was in O’Fallon at the Pachyderm luncheon. I spoke to this group before, and it was great to of had another opportunity to address them.

We started early on Wednesday at the Champaign GOP grassroots breakfast. There was a packed crowd at Biaggi’s restaurant as Jason Barickman and Habeeb Habeeb of the Champaign GOP rallied the supporters to help the candidates. The group was enthusiastic and I know they will be working hard for the Steve Kim campaign. I also had an interview with Talk radio AM 1400. We then headed over to the victory center where Andrew Proctor has been energizing more calls from volunteers than anyone in the State for the past week. Great job Andrew

After the victory center we headed north to speak at students at Northeastern Illinois University. My good friend Dr. Park arranged an engagement where I had an opportunity to speak to students on my experience as an Asian American politician.

We ended the day with two tea party events…one in schaumburg and the other in frankfort. The schaumburg and lincoln way tea parties are doing a great job in attracting voters on issues critical to the State and the US…overspending and over regulation are killing our small business industry..

Over 300 people attended the Effingham Republican Rally/Dinner. Thank you to Effingham GOP Chairman Steve Donaldson for organizing a great event. Senator Brady energized the crowd…It was wonderful to address supporters in Effingham right outside the MidAmerica corvette museum. What an amazing collection of corvettes!!

In the morning I had an interview with the Korea Tribune…speaking on issues important to the Korean American community and also relating my experience as a Korean American growing up in Illinois.

We will be spending a lot of time this week in different parts of Illinois. On Monday I had the Rock Island Argus and Dispatch newspaper editorial board interview. Afterwards we stopped by the Rock Island Republican headquarters and then to the Rock Island Republican barbecue in Illinois City. We tried to get back in time to attend the Downers Grove GOP monthly meeting but the construction traffic on 1-80 east is brutal. Avoid 1-80 east near Morris at all costs.

On Tuesday we will be in Effingham for their fall dinner, Wednesday morning we will be in Champaign for their grassroots breakfast, Thursday we will be in Colombia, near St Louis for Myron Neff and Monroe County’s dinner (over 500 people expected) and Friday we will be at an Ofallon brunch sponsored for me by St. Clair County Republicans and finally at the Pachyderm Club luncheon, also in OFallon.

Although the Tribune got it wrong on the endorsement, they did get it right in calling Lisa Madigan out on her dismal record of fighting public corruption: “What she (Lisa Madigan) hasn’t done…is launch a full assault on political corruption. Madigan has NIBBLED AROUND THE EDGES, working to strengthen and enforce the ‘revolving door’… prohibitions that prevent state employees from taking jobs with the firms they regulate. But the hallmark of her tenure has been consumerism, NOT corruption-busting.”

It was great to see the Republican organizations working hard on a beautiful and sunny Saturday walking precincts for candidates. We stopped by the Lake County Volunteer Center and greeted precinct captains and other volunteers. Then we headed to the Wheeling Township Republican headquarters where Committeewoman Ruth O’Connell and volunteers were working hard to get out the vote.

Afterwards I was interviewed by Russian radio on their Russian Orthodox channel. It was great reaching out to the Russian immigrant community. There are so many similarities between the Asian American and Russian American immigrant experiences…hardworking small business owners sacrificing so their children can live a better life.

We ended the day at Senator Dan Rutherford’s event at Connie’s pizza in Naperville. Good food and great friends from DuPage county..we had a great time.

UIC/Milton Township Oktoberfest

With only 25 days remaining until election day we are sending out literatures and yard signs.

Please email rey nonato at reynonato@gmail.com if you need literature and yard signs.

On Friday I spoke to college students at the UIC forum. Roosevelt college students, led by Maggie Chambers and Arie Friedman ..hosted this great event. It is awesome to see young people involved with the political process. College graduates are struggling to find jobs, and our political leaders must create an atmosphere in Illinois that will allow more entry level job creation. Too many of our college graduates are leaving to other States and also to other countries.

Chris Heidorn and the Milton Township Republicans had over 250 people attend their Oktoberfest event. It was great to see the crowd energized as we head into the final few weeks. Thank you to all the committeemen that sacrifice their time and resources to help the candidates. I appreciate all their efforts.
